Available On: PC, Mobile, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch

The original Bridge Constructor was a novel puzzle game that tasked players with, well, constructing bridges in order to ferry cars and trucks across chasms. Budding engineers had to overcome real physics issues involving supports, anchors, and the distribution of weight.

Bridge Constructor Portal is a vastly superior sequel that expertly injects beloved themes and characters from the Portal series while making the entire gameplay experience far smoother and more enjoyable for console players.

Wizard101 is Turning 10 and Coming to Steam

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

There aren’t very many MMOs without ‘Warcraft’ in the title that can celebrate a 10th year anniversary. The PC-only, kid-friendly MMO Wizard101 is turning 10 on September 2 and finally coming to Steam. A specific launch date has not yet been announced.

In Wizard101 players play as, you guessed it, wizards! Young wizards attending a school of magic, naturally. Learn spells, explore the fantasy world, and battle enemies using the collectible card game battle system. The aging MMO includes the usual assortment of social activities, including fishing, decorating, crafting, and pet training, as well as leaderboards and ranked tournaments for PvP.

The MMO is noteworthy for being kid-friendly. Parental control settings let parents set chat limitations to pre-selected phrases, and player names are selected from a pre-generated names list. You can read more about KingsIsle Entertainment’s parental controls and safety tips here.

Wizards101’s base game is free to play and supported with microtransactions (Crowns) as well as membership plans that open up more of the game and adds in-game benefits and goodies. Crowns let you pick and choose the content you want, while a monthly or annual membership grants everything.

Note that while Steam players play on the same servers as the original Wizard101 client, anyone playing through Steam will need to create a new account. None of the characters, Crowns, or memberships are transferable. The original client will still be available and you can even have both installed on your PC at the same time, since Steam uses its own folders for games.

Wizard101 is rated E10+.

Chrono Trigger Receives Fifth and Final Patch on Steam

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

There was much rejoicing when one of the most beloved 90s era RPGs launched on Steam earlier this year. But it was quickly followed by disappointment, as the PC version of Chrono Trigger had a host of problems, and was little more than a port of the mobile version.

Since then Square Enix has pledged to address the concerns and fix issues through several major patches and updates. The latest and final patch hit this week, adding key bindings, unlockable extras, and more UI tweeks.

The new Extras section is unlocked after completing the game. There you can watch all the movie scene cinematics as well as art designs. The full soundtrack is available to listen to, and you can also watch any of the endings that you have unlocked.

Previous patches added the original SNES pixel graphics and numerous interface and menu improvements for keyboards and controllers.

After five quality patches, the consensus now is that the PC version is finally a worthy port of the legendary 1995 SNES RPG.

Even better, it’s currently on sale with a 50% off discount until August 28.

Chrono Trigger is often regarded as the quintessential Japanese RPG, developed by a dream team of RPG developers. It stars Crono, a silent, spiky-haired protagonist who becomes embroiled in a time-traveling adventure to save the entire planet. It features an emotionally epic story and memorable characters designed by Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball fame.

Chrono Trigger is available on PC. It was previously ported to mobile devices (iOS, Android) as well as the Nintendo DS. It’s rated E10+.

LEGO Dimensions Adds Teen Titans Go, Powerpuff Girls, Beetlejuice

Posted by | News, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox One | No Comments

Disney Infinity closed its doors last year and Skylanders won’t be putting out a new title this year for the first time since 2011. But LEGO Dimensions is still going strong.

Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced five new expansion packs for their toys-to-life title that incorporates actual LEGO figures. The new sets are aimed at the Cartoon Network crowd, adding Teen Titans Go!, The Powerpuff Girls, and Beetlejuice. The Team Packs and smaller Fun Packs will arrive on September 12, closing out the second season of LEGO Dimensions releases.

The Teen Titans Go! Team Pack includes four figures: the Raven and Beast Boy minifigures, as well as the Teen Titans T-Car and Spellbook of Azarath. The T-Car is a 3-in-1 vehicle that can change into the Forklift and T-Plane. The Spellbook can be transformed into Raven Wings and a Giant Hand to provide flying and digging powers.

The Teen Titans Go! Fun Pack includes two figures: Starfire minifigure and Titan Robot. Like the T-Car the robot can be changed into the T-Rocket and Robot Retreiver. Both packs provide access to the Teen Titans Go! Adventure World in Jump City. This new area features worlds from the Teen Titans Go! cartoon, including Titans Tower and Wacka Doodles Amusement Park.

The Powerpuff Girls have also been divided into a Team Pack and a Fun Pack. The Team Pack includes two of the girls, Blossom and Bubbles, as well as the PPG Smartphone and Octi figures. The PPG Smartphone can change into the PPG Hotline and Powerpuff Mag-Net. Octi can be rebuilt into the Super Skunk or Sonic Squid.

To complete the Powerpuff trifecta you’ll need to purchase the Fun Pack. The Powerpuff Girls Fun Pack includes the Buttercup minifigure and the 3-in-1 Mega Blast Bot. The Bot can turn into the Ka-Pow Cannon and Slammin’ Guitar to add new combat moves.

Both packs open up the Powerpuff Girls Adventure World. Explore locations like Rainbow Land, and Pokey Oaks Elementary, as well as the Battle Arena.

Beetlejuice only gets a Fun Pack, which adds the goofy ghoul minifigure as well as a rather nasty looking Sandworm. The Sandworm can turn into the Haunted Vacuum and Spooky Spider. Beetlejuice also opens up a new Adventure World and Battle Arena.

LEGO Dimensions is available for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Wii U.

T is for Teen: An Easy Guide to the ESRB Ratings

Posted by | Tips for Parents | 11 Comments

Most people know the phrase “T is for Teen.” But what does T really mean?

A 2012 survey found that a significant percentage of parents are aware that there are ESRB ratings and consider the ESRB ratings when purchasing a game, and 89% of parents are present and involved in the purchasing decision.

The survey also found that awareness of ratings does not always mean the parent will use ratings when deciding which games to purchase—a finding that could be of some concern. While the ESRB rating system is the most highly enforced rating system in the nation, it is only as good as parents make it.
