Shocking exactly nobody, Nintendo has proudly announced that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 10 million copies worldwide (over 4 million in America) in its first three days of release. That impressive stat makes Tears of the Kingdom the fastest-selling game in the iconic franchise.

Tears of the Kingdom is the rare direct sequel in the Zelda series, continuing the story laid out in 2017’s Breath of the Wild.

Link awakens once again to a transformed Hyrule, including floating islands in the skies. By using powerful new abilities such as Fuse and Ultrahand, Link can move and combine objects and weapons into new creations, further opening up the open world.

“Many players are returning to Hyrule with all its new mysteries and possibilities, and with the record-breaking launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch, we can’t wait to see what they’ll create in the game and the stories they’ll share next,” said Devon Pritchard, Executive VP of Sales, Nintendo of America. “We’re grateful for all of our fans who’ve shown their passion for The Legend of Zelda over the years, and these sales numbers for the latest installment continue to show the strong momentum for both the franchise and Nintendo Switch this year.”

The Legend of Zelda remains one of the most popular gaming franchises over its 35+ years run, selling over 130 million copies worldwide. Though it still lags behind mega-juggernauts such as Call of Duty, Minecraft, and Super Mario.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch. It’s rated E10+.
