Frontier Developments has released management sim, Planet Zoo 2, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S ($49.99).
Planet Zoo 2 is the sequel to 2019’s zoo sim, which was a spiritual successor to the classic Zoo Tycoon series. Through Career, Sandbox, and Franchise modes, players build and manage their own zoo parks, including building exhibits and managing animal health and happiness.
The sequel puts an even greater emphasis on conservation, with players taking on the role of Conservation Coordinators and the Fauna and Ecosystems Network. Every zoo’s goal is to help animals and raise awareness to the public. Players will also get the chance to restore Wildlife Reserves where they can release animals into a real ecosystem.
From Career, Franchise, and Sandbox modes, players can link and trade their animals and create a thriving conservation network.
Planet Zoo 2 also expands animal management into the sea and sky, with fully customizable aquariums and aviaries. The new exhibits take full advantage of the game’s piece-by-piece building tools to create efficient, functional, and attractive exhibits and enclosures.
The sequel includes almost twice as many animals as the original game had on launch. Of course, Planet Zoo then received several years worth of DLC, adding lots and lots of animals from around the world. Expect more animals coming in Planet Zoo 2 DLC as well!
Players can theme their park around five different themes. The original Planet Zoo theme, plus four from the different hemispheres of the world.
Career mode features a story of conservation, and improving preexisting zoos across the world. Usually good for learning how to play the game!
Franchise mode is a popular way to play, with players building their custom zoos, creating a network of connected zoos and reserves, and even trading with other players online.
And Sandbox lets players build and customize without pesky limitations — like money!
In addition to the Standard Edition, Planet Zoo is available as a Deluxe Edition ($64.99). The Deluxe Edition includes some bonus decorations, and six additional species:
- Golden Eagle
- Golden Lion Tamarin
- Great Hammerhead Shark
- Axolotol
- Blue and Gold Fusilier
- Longfin Batfish
Planet Zoo 2 is available now on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s rated E10+.
