Over the last several days the official Pokémon GO twitter account has been teasing the next most requested feature for the game: Player versus Player. Trainer battles are still teased as “coming soon,” but we finally got some official screenshots and a few choice details on how they’ll work.
Three new Battle Leagues will be available for PvP Trainer battles: Great, Ultra, and Master, named after the PokéBalls. Each Battle League restricts which Pokémon you can use to a maximum CP amount. For the Great League the max CP per Pokémon is 1,500. Ultra League is 2,500 and Master really takes the wheels off with no max CP limit at all.
You’ll want to start organizing and preparing your team to get just under the values of those leagues. A Battle League team is made up of three Pokémon.
Here’s a breakdown of each Battle League’s requirements:

“When designing Trainer Battles, we wanted to create an experience that everyone can enjoy and ensure that different kinds of Pokémon can show their strengths,” states the official Pokémon GO twitter account. “With Leagues in Trainer Battles, we hope to create a system that’s accessible to many Trainers.”
That’s all the information we know so far on Battle Leagues. We don’t yet know how Trainers will be able to start these battles or what rewards will be offered.
Pokémon GO recently added the Adventure Sync. The Adventure Sync lets you sync the game’s walking speed with your smartphone, allowing you to hatch eggs and find Buddy candy without opening the app. Adventure Sync is enabled in the Settings menu.
When Pokémon GO launched two years ago, it drove a lot of newcomers to the concept of Augmented Reality. Developer Niantic had built upon their AR technology with an earlier game, called Ingress.
This week Niantic launched a rebooted version of Ingress, called Ingress Prime. Ingress Prime is available now as a free download on iOS and Android.
“Ingress Prime is built on Niantic’s Real World Platform and serves as a key driver for innovation around gameplay and technologies for all Niantic products,” said John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic. “Since its original release in November 2012, Ingress and its passionate and diverse user community have been an inspiration for the team to create new and innovative ways for players to work together both in-game and in the real world.”
Players embody agents of two different factions: the Enlightened and the Resistance, within the sci-fi near future world of Ingress. The story will evolve and change depending on how the agents interact and which side can control various landmarks around the world.
Anomaly events are similar to Pokémon GO’s Community Days, bringing people together for a weekend of mobile gaming. Niantic plans to host 12 Primary Anomaly events around the world, as well as over 100 smaller community-drive events. You can find out the wheres and whens of the events on the Ingress website.
With the launch of Ingress Prime, Niantic is also expanding the story and setting of their sci-fi universe. The Ingress Anime is an new CG-animated series coming in 2019 on Netflix. It’s described as a sci-fi adventure thriller featuring Ingress Agents and gameplay.
Pokémon GO will be celebrating Ingress Prime’s release with shiny green Cubones and blue Ponytas, as well as free in-game avatar gifts. Ingress Prime is available now on iOS and Android mobile devices.

The surprising new Mythical Pokémon addition, Meltan, was announced last month in Pokémon GO. It turns out Meltan can also be evolved into a much bigger, more powerful form called Melmetal. The catch is that it can only evolve in Pokémon GO.
In order to evolve a captured Meltan, you’ll need to catch a whole lot of them, or select one as your Buddy Pokémon to generate candy. Evolving Meltan requires 400 Meltan Candies. Trading with friends as well as sending Meltan to the upcoming Switch games Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! will also earn candy.
Melmetal remains a Steel type Pokémon, though its weight is increased by 100x. Its body hardens and it grows powerful arms it can use to swiftly punch opponents.
Melmetal can learn a unique Steel-type move called Double Iron Bash. Double Iron Bash deals a significant amount of damage and has a chance to cause the target to flinch and miss their turn.
Once evolved, Melmetal can be transferred to Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! on Switch.
Earning candy should be slightly easier with the upcoming Adventure Sync update. Adventure Sync is a new feature coming soon to Pokémon GO. It records walking distance even when Pokémon GO isn’t running. This lets you earn candy via the Buddy Pokémon as well as hatch eggs must faster. Adventure Sync can connect to both Apple Health on iOS and Google Fit on Android.
Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! are coming to Switch November 16.
