Square Enix has released their Minecraft meets Dragon Quest RPG, Dragon Quest Builders, on iOS and Android mobile devices, for $29.99. For the first two weeks after launch, it’s on sale for $21.99.

Dragon Quest Builders is set in the colorful, old school RPG world of Dragon Quest. Familiar monsters like the classic slime roam the world, but the procedurally generated island is made up of blocks like Minecraft, and players can carve, build, and customize their world.

The new DLC, Terra Incognita, officially unlocks free build mode, along with several other goodies. Posable giant monster figures, an astronomy set, a Pixel Ring that rewards additional pixels, and a flying magic carpet.

The mobile version also includes a feature called Building Card. Players can scan buildings made by other players, and import them onto their own island via the Summoning Stone.

Dragon Quest Builders originally released in 2016 on PlayStation 4. It’s also available on Nintendo Switch. A sequel was released in 2019 on PlayStation, Switch, and PC, and ported to Xbox One in 2021. The sequel added four player online co-op (and local co-op with the Switch).

Dragon Quest Builders is rated E10+.
