Hearthstone’s latest expansion, Descent of Dragons, is getting a new Solo Adventure later this month. Galakrond’s Awakening features two single player campaigns where players tackle a series of boss battles…
The Adventure Sync Hatchathon event has returned to Pokémon GO in January 2020. During the event you’ll gain extra rewards from from hatching eggs, which is done by recording steps in Pokémon GO.
During the Hatchathon event you can find special hat-wearing Pokémon from certain eggs. Specifically, Wurmple and Pichu wearing party hats can emerge from 2km and 7 km eggs.
In two-star raids you’ll be able to find Raticate and Wobbuffet sporting party hats, while wild hat-wearing Pikachu can be found in the wild. And all of the hat-wearing pokémon have a rare chance of appearing as their shiny variants.
Hatching during the event will also grant double the candy and stardust. If you manage to walk 50 km before the event ends, you’ll earn a whopping 50,000 stardust, 15 rare candies, and a Unova Stone.
Adventure Sync is an option that was added in 2018. It must be turned on in the settings menu of Pokémon GO. Doing so allows the game to track your steps using your phone’s built-in pedometer, without having the battery-draining app open, and makes hatching eggs way easier.
The Adventure Sync Hatchathon ends January 16 at 1 pm Pacific/4 pm Eastern.
In other January Pokémon GO news, more Unova generation Pokémon will be coming to Pokémon GO soon. Heatran will appear in five-star raids between Jan. 7 and Feb. 4, and special Research Breakthroughs can lead to catching a Lapras that knows Ice Shard and Ice Beam, from now until Feb. 1.
The Pokémon GO Holidays 2019 Event is running now through the stroke of midnight on the New Year’s Day. The event includes new Field Research tasks, increase spawn-rates for Ice-type Pokémon, and new Shiny Pokémon.
During the event you’ll see more Ice-type Pokémon such as Jynx, Delibird, Stantler, and Snover, as well as winter hat-wearing Pikachu and Pichu. They can be found in the wild, in raid battles, and hatched from eggs. Delibird can also appear as a Team Rocket Shadow Pokémon.
Here’s the breakdown of event tasks and their rewards:
- Take 5 snapshots of Ice-type Pokémon – Cubchoo
- Catch 5 Ice-type Pokémon – Snover
- Catch 5 Delibrid or Snover – Pikachu (with hat)
- Catch 10 Ice-type Pokémon – 1000 Stardust
- Hatch 7 eggs – Lapras
Additionally, there will be a global bonus for all Pokémon GO players every two days during the event.
- December 24-25: Double candy from catching and transferring.
- December 26-27: Double the stardust from catching.
- December 28-29: Double the XP from catching.
- December 30-January 1: Eggs hatch twice as quickly (half the distance needed).
And finally, since it’s the season of gift-giving, you’ll be able to carry up to 20 gifts from friends, and open up to 40 gifts each day during the Holidays event. To help with egg-hatching, trainers will also receive a free single-use Incubator per day.
The Pokémon GO Holidays event ends January 1, 2020.
Light Brick, an excellently-named new internal games studio from LEGO, has released their debut game exclusively on iOS through Apple Arcade. LEGO Builder’s Journey is an adventure-puzzle game where players solve a series of building challenges.
“We’re excited to bring digital LEGO brick building into new genres and reach new audiences with a different kind of game experience,” said Karsten Lund, creative director and head of studio, Light Brick. “LEGO play stands for the power of systemic creativity where sometimes you have to think differently and try new approaches in order to get new results. And we’re definitely tapping into that vibe.”
Unlike the more action-adventure LEGO games, LEGO Builder’s Journey is designed for all ages as a soothing puzzle experience with meditative music and zero dialogue. Build bridges and pathways and use bricks to manipulate the tiny cube worlds to help the pieces find their way home.
LEGO Builder’s Journey is available exclusively through Apple Arcade on iPad, iPhone, and Apple TV. Apple Arcade is a gaming subscription service that launched earlier this year, and includes over 100 mobile games, for $4.99 per month.
LEGO Builder’s Journey requires iOS 13.0 or later, and has a 4+ age rating.
Aspyr Media is celebrating the holidays with a generous free giveaway: no fewer than six Civ and Scenario DLC packs for the mobile version of Sid Meier’s Civilization 6.

The mobile version is available for iOS only (iPad Air or better or iPhone 7 or better). It’s free-to-download but limited to a 60-turn skirmish with pre-set Civs. The full game can be unlocked for $19.99.
Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 is rated 12+ on the App Store.
I always found it odd that a school so blatantly celebrated a religious holiday, but I suppose Hogwarts is anything but a typical school. Christmas has always been a major part of the series, and it’s no different for mobile AR game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
The Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event will consist of several events beginning on December 3, and features special scenes and memories from the Hogwarts Yule Ball, as well as helping Hagrid return lost magical creatures.
Here’s the official schedule of events:
Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event Part 1: December 3-10
- Relive the winter wonderland of the Hogwarts Yule Ball, including memories of couples like Hermione and Viktor, as well as Hagrid and Madame Maxime.
Christmas Calamity Brilliant Event Part 2: December 17-24
- Reflect on Yule Ball memories from Ron and his friends, including memories of Parvati and Harry, as well as Fred and Angelina.
In addition, Wizards Unite will have a Community Day on December 14. During the one-day event, players can find special Portkeys that will teleport to Hagrid’s Hut to unlock rare magical creatures. Developer Niantic is also teasing a 12 Tasks of Christmas Event, with details to follow in the coming days.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is free-to-play on iOS and Android.
