Last year Adobe Labs launched Project Aqua, a free-to-download creative kids app on iOS. The Aqua Adobe app has become hugely popular where it boasts a 4.8 user rating on the App Store. Aqua Adobe is now available for Android devices on the Google Play store.
Aqua is designed for kids ages 5 – 12, and features a variety of artistic activities, including drawing, painting, and fashion design. Kids can create their own digital comic books and graphic novels, practice tracing with photos or classic artwork, and save their projects in a personal digital art museum.
Aqua also includes drawing lessons with step-by-step tutorials from children’s book illustrators.
The official Aqua Adobe for Kids YouTube channel also offers helpful How To drawing videos, from dinosaurs and race cars to, uh, a drippy slime planet.
“When your child freely creates, they learn to believe in themselves,” explains Child Development Specialist Dr. Siggie Cohen. “Every drawing, story, and idea becomes a small step toward confidence and self-expression. When creativity is part of everyday life, it shapes how kids see themselves and what they believe they can do.”
Aqua also includes a feature many parents love in children’s apps — no pop-up ads or upsells. The app functions with or without an active internet connection. Plus, it naturally grows with children by gradually unlocking more advanced tools.
Aqua Adobe is free-to-download on Google and App stores, and rated 4+.
