Popular streaming service Netflix has launched Netflix Playground, a new kids app available for all subscribers. Netflix Playground features a library of games and activities with zero ads or microtransactions.
Netflix Playground is available now on mobile devices in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand. It’s launching for the rest of the world on April 28.
Every activity is instantly available offline, without the need for further downloads. The app also takes advantage of Netflix’s library of children’s programming, including Playtime with Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Dr. Seuess’ Horton, Storybots, and Bad Dinosaurs. Games include coloring, stickers, puzzles, and interactive stories.
Netflix Playground is designed for children eight years and younger.
“We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters,” said John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series + Kids & Family TV. “We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery, learning, and play. Whether it’s reuniting with Hank and the Trash Truck crew for new adventures or making a smoothie with Peppa Pig, watching and playing on Netflix can be the fun and easiest part of every family’s day.”
Netflix also announced new seasons for Sesame Street, Ms. Rachel, Trash Truck, The Creature Cases, and Mark Robar’s CrunchLabs.
Netflix includes parental controls for individual kids profiles (and PIN locked adult profiles), custom filters and blocking, and viewing history.
Netflix Playground is available to download for free on iOS and Android mobile devices. A Netflix subscription is required.
