It’s a good time to be a fan of the Mana series, also known as Seiken Densetsu in Japan. The series turns 30 this year, and Square Enix recently released the remaster of Legend of Mana, announced the release date for the Trials of Mana mobile version, and revealed an all-new spin-off for mobile, Echoes of Mana.
Legend of Mana is a remaster of the fourth game in the series, which originally released on PlayStation in 2000. In their journey to find the Mana Tree, players will use artifacts to build the world map, adding towns and dungeons. It also features some Pokémon influences as you capture eggs and hatch monsters to aid in battle. The Legend of Mana remaster is out now for Steam PC, PlayStation 4, and Switch ($29.99).
The Trials of Mana remake launched last year as a full 3D remake of the third game in the series. During a recent livestream, Square Enix announced that Trials of Mana is coming to iOS and Android mobile devices on July 15 ($23.99).
The mobile version features redesigned controls for touch screens, new graphics settings, and cloud save support. The original game released in 1995 for the Super Famicom, and infamously never saw a Western release until the Collection of Mana compilation for Switch in 2019.
The new game announcement is Echoes of Mana, a free-to-play action-RPG coming to mobile devices in 2022. We don’t know much about it beyond the teaser trailer (above), but there’s a good chance it’s a gacha game that includes in-app purchases for buying random packs of characters, a la Dragon Quest Tact.
