After reaching over 10 million downloads in Japan, Square Enix is now celebrating the worldwide release of Dragon Quest Tact, a strategy spin-off of the popular RPG series, designed for mobile devices. It’s available now on the Apple App Store and Android Google Play Store.

In Dragon Quest Tact, players will recruit and build teams of familiar monsters from the Dragon Quest series, such as Hammerhood, Sabrecub, Dracky, and the ubiquitous, adorable Slime. Unlike the RPG series, turn-based battles take place on a grid map, like Fire Emblem, as players battle the forces of the evil Orchesterra.

The Battle Road provides story content as players learn more about each of the monsters. Players can also grab free monsters while playing to unlock and earn rare and more powerful monsters, and upgrade their favorites. It’s a gacha game, meaning it’s free-to-play, with the option of purchasing currency (and/or slowly earning it in game) for a chance to earn new and better units.

Players who download the game before February 28 can earn the King Slime monster for free.

Dragon Quest Tact is the second made-for-mobile Dragon Quest spin-off to reach the US, after last year’s Dragon Quest of the Stars. The venerable RPG series has benefit from a recent popularity boom thanks to the wide acclaim (and expanded Definitive Edition release) of Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

Dragon Quest Tact is rated E for Everyone.
