It’s no surprise that our favorite ongoing life sim is Disney Dreamlight Valley, which just wrapped up one of its best years ever in 2025. Armed with the most popular IP in the world, a steady drip-feed of new content and seasonal events, and a not-terrible monetization scheme, and you have the recipe for a flashy chore-simulator that keeps us coming back and playing (and decorating) for hours and hours.
But what does 2026 hold for Disney Dreamlight Valley?
Last year saw six major updates, nearly a dozen new characters, several new Realms, and an entire expansion release with Wishblossom Ranch (which added even more new characters, quests, and biomes). Dreamlight Valley has hosted a total of 20 major updates since its early access launch back in 2022, and we expect just as much love and attention moving forward.
First, let’s go over what we know: the next three updates!
Dreamlight Valley 2026 Roadmap
Back in October 2025, Gameloft hosted their annual Disney Dreamlight Valley showcase, where they teased the roadmap for the first half of 2026.
Early 2026 will add Lady and the Tramp as the first major update (recently confirmed via Instagram), right around Valentine’s Day.
Then, Spring 2026 will add Disney’s most controversial princess, Pocahontas. Finally, Summer 2026 should take us from zero to hero with Hercules, joining Hades (from Storybook Vale), and Pegasus (from Wishblossom Ranch).
It’s not clear whether any of these characters will come with their own featured Realms, a la Aladdin, Inside Out, and Alice in Wonderland, or as single character drops, such as with Cinderella. I’m not sure Lady and the Tramp needs to be a fully explorable Realm, for example, but Pocahontas and Hercules could definitely feature Realms.
Dual character releases are actually quite common in Dreamlight Valley as well. Does this mean John Smith with Pocahontas, and/or Megara or Phil with Herc? If we had to choose, we’d take Meg over John (or Phil) every time!
That takes care of the first half of 2026, but what about the second half?
Dreamlight Valley 2026 Features Wishlist
First off, we desperately need an official Switch 2 edition! [Update 2/05/26: A Switch 2 version was announced during the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase! It’s launching March 25] Dreamlight Valley has many Switch players who love gaming on the handheld-hybrid console, and the Switch 2 has proven a solid upgrade with the same convenience. But the original Switch version is notoriously slow, with extended loading times, frequent frame rate issues, and even crashes. For players who have made the upgrade to Switch 2, a free or even paid upgrade for Switch 2 would be a huge quality of life improvement.
Secondly, many of us game on multiple consoles, such as PC and Switch. Cloud saving works well for cross-progression, but paid expansions are only recognized on the platform they’re purchased on. On Steam PC, I can freely access any of the expansion biomes and story quests, but while on a different console, I can’t travel there at all (though I still have access to the tools, characters, and mounts). As a result, I explore the expansion content much less often than my main Valley.
Please allow for cross-purchases for expansion packs, Gameloft!
We’d also love if multiplayer got a significant overhaul. Though it was added after launch, multiplayer is still more of an afterthought, with players able to visit each other’s valleys by sharing friend codes. But once there, they can’t really do much other than look around.
DreamTeams are a step in the right direction for multiplayer. Added in the Winter Ball update, DreamTeams are like Dreamlight Valley’s version of guilds, with players forming teams and getting their own page on the menu.
DreamTeams are new and a bit bare, with teammates limited to uploading and sharing pictures, and requesting items. We’d love specific DreamTeam achievements and goals to work towards, with new goodies to unlock as rewards.
Also, for the love of Goofy, give us something, anything, to do with all these Night Shards. At least let us sell the darn things!
New Characters and Realms Wishlist
While Dreamlight Valley leans more toward nostalgia than modern, I wouldn’t be shocked if we see a full Zootopia Realm, with Nick and Judy as Villagers.
Zootopia 2 absolutely blew up at the box office, and became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. Nick and Judy would make for perfect Villagers, with plenty of interesting quests and character interactions.
For another potential pick, let’s look at the list of official Disney princesses. If you include the expansions (which added Rapunzel and Snow White), and the recent addition of Cinderella in December 2025, there’s only one official Disney princess missing from the Valley: Raya.
Raya and the Last Dragon isn’t the most popular animated film; its original release was hampered by the pandemic, and, in my humble opinion, the lack of music. Also, the ending message is kind of weird and annoying.
But Raya herself is a cool character, and she could make a fine addition to the Valley. Plus, there’s precedent for more recent movie adaptations in the Valley, with the addition of Mirabel from Encanto (2021) back in 2023 — though we could definitely still use a full Encanto Realm with more of the family. Don’t make me talk about Bruno!
Ralph from Wreck-it Ralph is another interesting choice. The big guy is even featured in background of the original announcement trailer!
Vanellope was added way back in 2023, though if Dreamlight Valley characters were given a rating, she’d be near the bottom due to her childish prankster personality and garish house design. Still, after this many years Ralph deserves his passport to the Valley to join his BFF.
And for another missing half of a core friendship — Lilo from Lilo & Stitch! Poor Stitch has been in that house all alone for years! Just thinking of the potential interactions between Lilo, Maui, and Moana makes me smile.
Also, we’re still missing a lot of Princes and Beaus to pair with our princesses (or salaciously dine with other villagers at Tiana’s Palace). Where’s Prince Phillip, Prince Naveen, and Li Shang?
The last two years has brought us new sidekicks found in previous Realms, starting with Timon and Pumba in 2024, followed by Lumiere and Cogsworth in 2025. For this year, might we humbly suggest the Genie from Aladdin? Only a single character, but arguably one of the biggest and most popular supporting character in the Disneyverse. We could also see the other main Emotions arriving as supporting characters from last year’s Inside Out Realm update.
Looking to the past, might I humbly suggest Robin Hood, with Little John and Maid Marion, which set aflame many an anthropomorphized heart, or the pint-size Rescuers Bernard and Bianca, or Basil and Dawson from the Great Mouse Detective (although tiny Villagers are admittedly a bit annoying, sorry Woody and Buzz and Remy).
For slightly more recent movies, there’s The Emperor’s New Groove, a cult classic amongst a certain generation that has yet to appear in any way in the Valley. Emperor’s New Groove could easily fill an entire Realm, not to mention one of Disney’s most lovable villains. Plus, players could unlock Kuzco’s llama/human transformation a la Ariel’s human/mermaid form, via the level 10 Friendship Quest.

For Pixar fans, The Incredibles is an incredibly (sorry) popular series, though adding all four family members at once would be unprecedented. We’ll just settle for Edna, thank you!
What about the underrated Atlantis: The Lost Empire? Big Hero 6 and Onward are also weirdly forgotten about, but I’m okay with pushing them off into a future year.
We can also confidently declare that Tarzan (or Jane) probably won’t make an appearance any time soon. Despite the animated film’s popularity (and absolutely bangin’ Phil Collins soundtrack), Disney doesn’t own the rights to Tarzan as a character, one of the few things they don’t fully own, and its existence has been significantly reduced across the Disneyverse.
We’ll also throw out another hot take and ask for characters from the greater Disney Channel universe, such as Goofy’s son Max, Huey, Dewey, and Lewy from DuckTales, and Baloo and Kit from TaleSpin, which would be more interesting their original Jungle Book versions.
And who doesn’t love more Disney villains? The villains in Dreamlight Valley are easily some of the best, and well-written characters. We’re still missing a few classic villains, such as Captain Hook, Dr. Facilier, and Yzma. Unfortunately, villains seem to only appear in major expansion packs these days.
New Expansion
Speaking of expansion packs, Gameloft has consistently released a new expansion each year, though the release gets muddled when breaking up expansions into multiple waves. The most recent expansion, Wishblossom Ranch, was the first to release fully complete. We expect the same full-release going forward, with another big expansion arriving in the latter half of the year.
The previous expansions added new tools or mounts, new biomes, and additional characters headlined by an exciting villain (or two).
For the next expansion, we’re predicting Captain Hook as our starring villain, and an expansion themed around boats and water. Or perhaps Yzma will be involved in a potion-crafting plot, and we’ll unlock the ability to craft potions to transform into animal companions!
A new expansion could also bring in a more urban/city biome environment, whether inspired by Zootopia, The Incredibles, or Big Hero 6, with all the decorative items and buildings that come with it.
Whatever the new content brings, we’ll be here checking in with new Star Paths, re-decorating our Valley, and progressing those Friendship Quests.
Disney Dreamlight Valley is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox, and rated E for Everyone.
