The Emotional Rescue update for Disney Dreamlight Valley dropped this week, adding a new Inside Out Realm, and a new Retro Roadtrip Star Path.

The Star Path itself has also gotten a major facelift.

First, all character-specific duties have been removed (except for newcomers, Joy and Sadness). This helps newer players complete the Star Path without needing characters they haven’t unlocked yet (and Dreamlight Valley has a lot of characters by now!).

All multi-day duties that required a specific time of day, have been removed. Restaurant-related duties have also been removed (technically character-specific), as well as the duties that require crating Training Manuals (GOOD!). Memory Orb duties have been significantly reduced (and I believe orb spawns were increased in a previous update).

Players can now complete new weekly Routine Duties as part of the Star Path. Routine Duties unlock every Wednesday. Routine Duties are supplemental with regular Duties. Routine Duties must be completed in release order, but players can catch up if they fall behind.

Purchasing the Premium Star Path unlocks all Routine Duties that have been released, allowing them to be completed in any order. Completing Routine Duties will be necessary to fully unlocking the Bonus Rewards at the end of the Star Path.

Week 1’s Routine Duties are pretty simple:

  • Purchase 10 items from a Stall
  • Visit Scrooge McDuck’s Store
  • Buy 5 items from Scrooge’s Store

The Star Path’s overall length has also increased to more five days that usual, as well as a 48-hour period after it ends, where players can use any leftover Tokens (the grace period technically got shorter, but the overall Star Path time is longer).

“We received feedback that certain Star Path duties felt repetitive or difficult to complete since some duties require a specific Villager or a game feature to be unlocked such as DreamSnaps or Chez Remy,” states developer Gameloft. “To fix this, we’re introducing Routine Duties and will remove locked, multi-day, and other restrictive duties to make progression smoother for all players.

The Emotional Rescue Update also adds the new Inside Out Realm. Unlocking and completing the Realm adds Joy to the Village, followed by Sadness. The Premium Shop now includes a Lucky Companion from 101 Dalmatians, which may be our first bit of content from that series.

And we’re getting a ton of excellent quality of life improvements: Villager vendors in the expansions (with the expansions’ stuff!), lower Dreamlight cost for expanding storage chests, motifs in Photo Mode (including Dreamsnaps), and Floating Islands for A Rift in Time. Oh, and uncrafting now costs Star Coins instead of Dreamlight!

I’m not terribly excited about 1950s diner decor in the Star Path, but these are some excellent updates and changes for the ongoing life sim.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox, and rated E for Everyone.
