Cooperative multiplayer is a major feature of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, as well as the upcoming Remastered Edition. Square Enix is releasing a free demo version that includes the ability to join multiplayer sessions with a host who owns a full copy of the game.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition Lite will include the first three dungeons that can be played in single player and online multiplayer. Lite users can also join online sessions with hosts who own a copy of the full game. Up to four players can journey through up to 13 dungeons with only a single copy of the game.

The players don’t even need to be on the same platform. Crystal Chronicles includes cross-play, though users will need to have an active subscription to their platform’s online gaming service, such as PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online.

Any progress made on the Lite version will carry over should players purchase the full game.

Aside from an HD graphics and UI upgrades, the Remastered Edition brings several new features. Party members can utilize quick chat commands during online play, and synchronize their abilities with the new magic timer. The Remastered Edition also adds challenging new post-game dungeons such as the Mine of Cathuriges, and over 50 new music tracks.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will arrive August 27 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Android and iOS mobile devices. It’s rated T for Teen.
