Square Enix has announced the release date for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition. It will be available on August 27 on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and iOS and Android mobile devices.

The Remastered Edition features updated audio and visuals for the HD era. It also includes a number of new enhancements including voiceovers and new bosses, dungeons, and items. The biggest modern update is the addition of online multiplayer, including cross-play between platforms. Note that online multiplayer requires a PlayStation Plus subscription on PS4 or a Nintendo Switch Online account on Switch.

The Remastered Edition also includes a new gameplay feature called Mimic. By collection stamps and completing dungeons, players can acquire crystals  that change their appearance to familiar favorites.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles originally released in 2004 as a spin-off action-RPG on the Nintendo GameCube. Players created their own avatar and journeyed across a fantasy world in a caravan to explore dungeons and protect a magic crystal.

Crystal Chronicles supported local multiplayer via the unique Game Boy Advance link cables, giving each player an advanced controller. Multiplayer support has come a long way in the years since, and the Remastered Edition now supports online multiplayer for up to four players.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is out August 27 on PlayStation 4, Switch, and mobile devices. It’s rated T for Teen.
