The Sims Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Free Birthday Hot Tub

Posted by | News, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One | No Comments

The Sims may not enjoy the incredible popularity it once held, but it’s still comfortably in the top ten best-selling video game series of all time. This year EA is celebrating The Sims’ 20th anniversary with an update that adds a free in-game item for The Sims 4.

The special item is the Birthday Hot Tub, and it’s free to anyone who logs into The Sims 4 on any platform. It’s located under Outdoor Activities, and allows Sims to chat, skinny dip, and even engage in some romance, er, WooHoo.

Here’s what EA has to say about the storied franchise:

From the beginning, The Sims has been about playing with life, creating and designing a world in which anything can happen. Even back then, The Sims put a lot of emphasis on inclusion and the freedom to play as you like with the capability to romance any Sim, pick any career path, or spend all of your time in Build/Buy mode. It’s changed a lot in the past twenty years, though, as our understanding of those ideas has evolved. More than just reflecting life as it is, The Sims opens up new possibilities and does away with limits. It gives you a space to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and challenge the status quo.

We have so much more in store for you in this new decade, and we can’t wait to share the journey with you. Thank you for all of your creativity, your passion, and your hilarity. You are the best players in the world.

The birthday celebration also includes a fun infographic featuring various Sims stats, like 75+ expansion packs, over 1.6 billion Sims, and 825 million downloads from the Gallery.

If you really want to show off your Sims love, there’s a new 20th Anniversary Birthday Collection for Sims-branded clothing on Threadless.

The Sims 4 originally released in 2014 on Windows PC (Origin), 2015 on Mac, and in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s rated T for Teen.

The Sims Team Up with Ironhack to Provide Tech Scholarships

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

In honor of The Sims 4 Discover University, EA has partnered with Ironhack to provide a chance to win a scholarship at one of Ironhack’s tech campuses.

With The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack, Sims can go to school to learn the in-demand skills needed for their future careers. And with The Sims and Ironhack scholarship, it’s your chance to do the same. We’re offering players the opportunity to extend their in-game experience to the real world. This scholarship encourages applicants to learn and discover some of the exciting careers within the video game and technology industries.

The scholarship application is open to anyone over 18, until Dec. 17. To apply for the scholarship you’ll need to take a technical test related to your course of choice: Web Development, UX/UI Design, or Data Analytics. The test is available until Jan. 5, 2020.

If the technical test was successful, you’ll be selected for a 10-15 minute personal interview. The interview can be conducted via video call or at a local Ironhack campus. Personal Interviews are available until Jan. 24, 2020. Winners will be notified the following week.

Both partial and full scholarships are available, and Ironhack offers 24-week part-time and nine-week full-time programs for each course.

Nine Ironhack campuses are available around the world, with the only US campus in Miami, FL. Ironhack does not offer remote or online courses, and does not offer visa support for international students.

The Sims 4 is Currently Free on PC until May 28

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

Anyone with an Origin account can download The Sims 4 for free (normally $39.99) until May 28. Simply head over to the Origin app or website and add it to your library. It’s available for both Windows and Mac. It’s not simply a trial either; after the promotion ends the full game will remain in your Origin library.

Only the base game is available for free, of course. EA will try to sell you its Origin Access subscription program, but you don’t need it to get The Sims 4. If you have Origin Access Basic, you get access to The Sims 4 Digital Deluxe version, while Origin Access Premiere also grants the Dine Out and Kids Room Stuff expansions. The Digital Deluxe edition includes the Awesome Animal Hats, Life of the Party, and Up all Night DLC packs, as well as the soundtrack.

The Sims 4 originally launched in 2014. Like previous Sims games, it quickly became a best-seller, though fans and critics had mixed reactions, noting that it stripped many of the content and features that were present in The Sims 3. Since launch the game has received numerous free updates and paid DLC packs and expansions. The most recent, Get Famous, released in Fall 2018 and added acting and influencer as new careers.

The Sims 4 is rated T for Teen with Crude Humor, Sexual Themes, and Violence. It’s also available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The free period on Origin ends May 28.
