Electronic Arts announced that The Sims 4 recently reached a new milestone: 70 million players. This comes on the heels of the latest expansion Growing Together, and several months after the base game became free-to-play last October.

The Sims 4 released back in 2014. Since launch, Maxis and EA have released 13 expansion packs, 12 game packs, 18 stuff packs, and 10 kits.

According to the press release, Growing Together has been hugely successful, with higher sales than any other expansion pack in launch week. The expansion pack added many highly requested features, including infants and toddlers, and expanded family relationships.

Since making the base game free-to-play, over 16 million new players have downloaded the game, and average weekly users has increased by 53%.

“It’s incredible to see how much our community has grown over the past eight years, and our players continue to inspire us with the countless ways they explore life in The Sims 4,” said Phillip Ring, Executive Producer. “We know The Sims 4 continues to be a creative outlet for people, and our team strives to deliver new and innovative gameplay content that empowers our players to embrace the chaos that comes with self-discovery.”

At over 200 million copies sold, The Sims remains one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time

The Sims 4 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s rated T for Teen.
