Re-Logic and 505 Games have released the long-awaited Update 1.4.5 for beloved indie survival-crafting game, Terraria. The update arrives on all platforms, kicking off Terraria’s 15th anniversary.
Version 1.4.5 was originally announced all the way back in 2022, following what was the final update in 2020, Journey’s End.
Insert joke here about how Bigger & Boulder will be the final, final update.
The amount of new content, updates, and quality of life improvements is kind of ridiculous, but let’s start with the new crafting interface. The new interface is based on the Research and Duplication UI in Journey Mode, with new tabs replacing the old grid view. Plus, now you can automatically pull materials from nearby chests to craft items, rather than having to hunt and put them into your inventory.
With over 5,000 different items, inventory management received some much-needed love, including more stackable items.
Housing is also easier, especially in the early game. Newly spawning Villagers no longer require a valid house, and automatically retreat to safety at nighttime.
Returning players may want to check out the new World Seed menu, making it easier than ever to select a specific kind of world generation. There’s even a new World Seed, Skyblock, that generates a world without ground at all — quite the challenge for a game centered around digging and exploring underground!
The update also adds over 650 new items, as well as official crossover content with two other popular indie games: Dead Cells and Palworld. Both games already received their Terraria content from the crossover collaboration, and now it’s finally Terraria’s turn. Terraria players can finally unlock new furniture and weaponry from the Dead Cells universe, as well as some of the most popular Pals from Palworld.
Released in 2011, Terraria became an indie gaming phenomenon, transforming the then-new Minecraft style of open world exploration and crafting into a 2D, pixelated world.
The Version 1.4.5 Update has reignited the indie game’s popular, pushing it up the Steam most played charts. Terraria currently sits at #4 most played overall on Steam, with around 160,000 players — wow!
Terraria is available on Steam PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and mobile devices. It’s rated T for Teen.
