Sunderfolk was one of our favorite co-op games of 2025, but it did have one major drawback: local multiplayer only! That’s about to change when Sunderfolk 2.0 releases on March 10, adding online multiplayer, as well as a new game mode, and a new hero.
Sunderfolk is a turn-based, tactical-RPG, like if D&D was only about the combat, with some fun town interactions and dialogue. It was originally designed as a couch co-op experience, but video games also help keep people connected while we’re far away. With 2.0, up to four players can play together via player-hosted sessions online (PC only; each player must own a copy of Sunderfolk).
Since the previous version of Sunderfolk relied on using phones (with a free app) as the controller, the new update also adds traditional mouse and keyboard controls (the phone app remains supported, and a legit fun way for couch co-op).
The update also adds a seventh hero, a badass bunny wielding a large sword. The new Vanguard is described as a brawler with a balanced play-style between offense and defense.
Players can also enjoy the new One Shot Mode, which includes the Sacred Sand, and Arena Rumble mission sets. Sacred Sand features four missions of escorting the Sacred Bug to reclaim her home. Arena Rumble is a three-mission tournament as players battle in the Ogre Arena.
As someone who thoroughly enjoyed the full campaign of Sunderfolk with my spouse, I’m excited to introduce it to my online friends soon!
Sunderfolk is available on Steam PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox. The 2.0 version will release on March 10, and launch on the Epic Games Store.
Dreamhaven and Secret Door also recently recently announced Shadowstone, a co-op tactical roguelite game set in the same universe as Sunderfolk. Players select their heroes and fight monsters through randomized rooms. Shadowstone is due out on Steam Early Access later this year.
