Veteran gaming journalists Maddy Myers and Zoë Hannah have co-founded and launched Mothership, a new gaming website focusing on gender identity and inclusion in gaming.

Per the ethics page, Mothership will “always approach stories and sources with curiosity and respect, employing the tenets of intersectional feminism and class consciousness to ensure the site accurately represents people of all walks of life.”

The best part of Mothership is that you, the reader, get to exist in a space where the assumption is that you play games and care about them. No exclusion, intimidation, or gaming credentials questioned. And even if that isn’t your experience, maybe you just want to read a gaming site with writing and perspectives that specifically focus on gender and identity as they relate to games.

Mothership will feature long-form op-eds, developer interviews, game reviews, investigations, and an advice column. The first week of articles include interviews with appearance-based modders, a personal op-ed about the in-game tragedies in the Dragon Age series, and an interesting read about how Silksong’s more expanded female protagonist improves on the original game.

Oh, and definitely check out Zoë’s list of favorite cozy games!

In a dire age of mass layoffs in the gaming industry (and games journalism), Mothership is an independently owned channel, and supported by subscribers and donations. Users can unlock the full paywall with a monthly or yearly subscription. Mothership also offers free articles, and a weekly newsletter. The channel can also be found on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
