During the Destiny 2 Showcase livestream, Bungie announced the final expansion that wraps up the main story of co-op looter-shooter Destiny 2. Destiny 2: The Final Shape will release on February 27, 2024.
The Final Shape tells the culmination of story events that began with Destiny 2’s original release. The Guardians will journey into The Traveler and battle The Witness alongside their companions such as Ikora Rey, Zavala, and Cayde-6.
Within the traveler, Guardians will discover a new location, The Pale Heart. The Pale Heart features callbacks to previous events and areas, including the original Tower from the first Destiny game.
The expansion also adds three new Super abilities and Aspects to the three classes, as well as a new weapon subfamily, and some classic weapons from the original Destiny.
The livestream confirmed that Destiny 2 won’t end with this expansion, but evolve into Episodes. Beginning in March 2024, Episodes will replace the seasonal model, and feature standalone stories. Next year will feature three Episodes, titled Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy, each with their own content and rewards.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape is available for pre-order in three different editions: Standard Edition ($49.99), Annual Pass Edition ($99.99), and Collector’s Edition ($275).
The Annual Pass Edition includes access to the three episodes launching in 2024, one secret stash of goodies per Episode, and several in-game instant-unlocks.
The Collector’s Edition includes a replica model of the original Tower (including LED lights), Vanguard mentor figurines, autograph book, and digital soundtrack.
Destiny 2 is available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Windows), PlayStation, and Xbox. It’s rated T for Teen.
