Fuse Games, Secret Mode, and Lucasfilm have released Star Wars: Galactic Racer on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Galactic Racer is a racing game, and a spiritual successor to Star Wars Episode I: Racer, released back in 1999.
Set during the modern era of the New Republic, Galactic Racer drops players into the dramatic world of illegal street racing in the Outer Rim.
The singleplayer campaign stars Shade, a lone racer out for revenge against the current league champion. With each race, players choose upgrades, routes, and events that shape their story, and compliment their playstyle.
Racing isn’t limited to just podracing, however. Players can pilot a total of four different ‘repulsorcraft,’ including landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders.
Landspeeders are sturdy and resilient, with steady drifting and acceleration. Speeder bikes are very fast and agile, but more fragile. Their Kinetic Burst ability provides a boost of speed when coming out of a corner. Skim speeders are a new vehicle introduced in Galactic Racer, and provide a middle balance between the other two vehicles (and literally resemble a physical mashup!).
Due to their larger size and incredible speed, podracers are raced separately from the other craft, requiring precise controlling to handle.
In addition to the singleplayer campaign, Galactic Racer includes short Arcade mode races, and longer event-based Scenarios with different challenges.
The developer, Fuse Games, is made up of veteran racing game developers whose credits include the Burnout and Need for Speed franchises.
“Three and a half years ago, Fuse Games was a handful of people with a big idea scrawled on a whiteboard. Today we launch our debut game, set in a galaxy far, far away. Building an experience at this scale as a small independent studio meant finding a different way to work, and different people to work with, at every step. We thank every development partner who helped get us here, to the team at Secret Mode, and above all to Lucasfilm Games, for trusting a small team with such a legendary galaxy.”
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is out now on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation, and Xbox, and rated E10+. A Digital Deluxe Edition includes three exclusive vehicle skins and livery, and a digital art book.
