Dionous Games and indie developer Lightfoot Bros Games have announced that adventure game, Sleepytime Village, will release on PC (Steam, GOG) on October 30.
Sleepytime Village is an old school, point and click adventure game starring Rufus Stone, a dad who becomes trapped in the titular children’s storybook. Rufus is a hardworking but neglectful father, and becomes haunted by this new world, and visions of his own childhood.
The game’s tone is immersive and emotional, but not overly scary, and there’s no gore (though ‘accidental death’ is a danger!). This is a story-driven puzzle game where players use over 100 different objects and secrets to escape this world. By exploring and completing puzzles, Rufus will comb through his fragmented memories, and hopefully learn some important lessons.
The designers reference The Secret of Monkey Island and Broken Sword as genre touchstones.
I’m always a sucker for classic adventure games!
The childlike art style and characters were inspired by game writer Steven Horry’s daughter, and recreated by artists Yulia Lapko and animated by James Lightfoot. The game features more than 70 hand-drawn scenes, as well as full voice acting.
Sleepytime Village will release on PC on October 30. A free demo is available to download.
