The Pokémon Company announced that Part 1 of the Expansion Pass for Pokémon Pokopia, Bubbly Basin, will release on August 5 on Nintendo Switch 2.
A new trailer showcased more details of the Expansion content, including Part 2, which is arriving later this year.
The free 2.0 update is also arriving on August 5, and it’s pretty important, since it unlocks a feature used in the new DLC: underwater gameplay! With Manaphy’s help, players learn a new Dive move to help Ditto explore underwater, alongside Water Pokémon.
Bubbly Basin, Part 1 of the Pokopia Expansion Pass, is all about exploring the new water biome. Players can expand the underwater town, grow watermelons, and generate bubble machines. New buoyant blocks allow for building under water, and above water, and you can even build an awesome-looking Sharpedo submarine.
And, of course, expect lots of new Pokémon to unlock and befriend.
The story tasks players with exploring a dark hole in the sea floor, which sounds super creepy, but looks to involve glowing coral (and probably Legendary Pokémon).
Note that in order to start the expansion, you’ll have to progress to at least the Bleak Beach town and raise the environment level, as well as acquire the Dive move from the 2.0 update.
Expansion Pass Part 2 also get a brief tease, showcasing some of the accessories that Ditto and other Pokémon can dress up with. Part 2 does not add a new town — but Part 3 does! The third and final part of the Pokopia Expansion Pass will add a new town sometime in 2027.
Pokopia is a spinoff of the Pokémon series inspired by Minecraft and Animal Crossing. Players play as a Ditto who can transform into other Pokémon as they rebuild the world and attract Pokémon into new homes and habitats.
The Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass includes all three parts for $34.99. Pokopia is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, and rated E for Everyone.
