Gameplay Group International, Paramaount Games Studio and Avatar Studios have released Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch ($29.99).
The Xbox version has been surprisingly delayed until September 3, however. I blame the Fire Nation!
Avatar Legends is set within the world of the popular animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. It’s a classic 2D, 1v1 fighting game featuring 12 playable fighters, including Aang, Sokka, Katara, Korra, and Zuko, in all their colorfully hand-drawn, animated glory.
Players can embark on a singleplayer Story Mode outlined by original show creators, learn to play each element-wielding fighter through Training Mode, Lessons, and Trials, and play with others through Online Ranked and Casual lobbies, as well as local multiplayer.
“As fans ourselves, we knew exactly how high the expectations were for an Avatar fighting game,” said Victor Lugo, Founder & CCO, Gameplay Group International. “We wanted to get it right. Avatar is a natural fit for the fighting game genre, and from the beginning, our focus was on creating an experience that feels true to the world while delivering the responsiveness, depth and competitive experience players expect. Seeing fans finally get their hands on the game is incredibly rewarding and we can’t wait to watch them master the elements.”
Avatar Legends is available in Standard and Deluxe Editions. The Deluxe Edition ($49.99) includes a digital art book, soundtrack, and the Year 1 Pass, which includes five post-launch DLC characters, as well as additional character colors.
A physical edition, alongside a Switch 2 version, will arrive later this year.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is rated E10+ with Fantasy Violence.
