Ubisoft announced Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains is coming to PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox on June 11, alongside a new gameplay trailer. The digital board game adaptation adds a team-based twist to the classic board game.
Before you ask, no, this isn’t just a simple reskin of classic Monopoly that you’ve seen hundreds of times in every license you can possibly imagine.
As a digital board game, the design can delve into some creative ideas. Players build their roster from over 25 different Star Wars characters such as Luke, Leia, Yoda, Vader — look there’s a lot of them, okay? Heroes have various abilities that give them certain features or advantages — same with the villains.
Landing on the same space as an opponent triggers a dice battle to determine who controls the location.
The Monopoly board features 22 locations from across the Star Wars universe, including the Ewok Village, Echo Base, and Jedi Temple, with each location presented as a full 3D diorama.
Also, getting frozen in carbonite when you Go Directly to Jail? Love it.
This version of Monopoly is designed as a competitive team-based experience, focusing on 2v2 and 3v3 modes, with each player playing as a different Star Wars character. Multiplayer is available online, and via local couch co-op. There’s also special GO events and missions that change the game while you’re playing.
Dang, now I kind of want an actual physical version of Monopoly Star Wars with all these interesting new features!
That being said, Ubisoft, you couldn’t save this new release date announcement for May the 4th?
Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains will release on June 11 on PC (Steam, Epic, Ubisoft), PlayStation 5, Switch and Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S ($29.99). It’s rated E10+ with Fantasy Violence.
