MultiVersus, the Smash Bros-like fighting game starring Warner Bros. characters, is shutting down, with Season 5 as the final update.

Season 5 will end on May 30, and also end all online support. Players will still be able to play offline, including local multiplayer.

In order to continue to play MultiVersus after May 30, players must download, log in, and update to the latest version during Season 5. “After logging in, a local save file will be automatically created connected to a PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, to enjoy the game offline with all earned and purchased content moving forward.”

MultiVersus will otherwise be delisted from all digital stores and platforms. Deleting or uninstalling allows you to reinstall at a future date, however, provided you had the latest version installed.

Here is a statement from developer Player First Games from the official FAQ:

This decision was not made lightly. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have put our heart and soul into MultiVersus, creating a unique social and cooperative experience from the ground up that brings together a variety of popular characters and worlds. We are very proud of the game we’ve built and are incredibly thankful for the support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey. Your passion and enthusiasm have been unmatched.

Season 5 begins today, adding Lola Bunny and Aquaman as new characters, along with a full, 70-tier battle pass. It doesn’t sound like players need to work very hard to unlock them. Lola is unlocked upon logging in, while Aquaman is the first tier of the battle pass.

Real money transactions have already been eliminated.

MultiVersus was an interesting arena platform fighter built as a free-to-play, live service game. It had the backing of Warner Bros and all their IP characters, including DC heroes and villains, Scooby Doo, the Powerpuff Girls, and more. It has a rocky history, launching first in Open Beta in 2022, then pulled for an entire year before relaunching in 2024, with mixed results.

MultiVersus is currently playable on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation, and Xbox. It’s rated T for Teen.
