Square Enix has released Octopath Traveler 2 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch. Watch the new launch trailer above.

Octopath Traveler 2 is the standalone sequel to the 2018 retro-inspired JRPG. Like the original game, it features eight intertwining protagonists and stories, and a charming HD-2D art style, combining pixelated characters in a 3D world.

The sequel is set in a new world, Solistia, and features completely new characters.

As in the original game, players will choose and swap between eight different characters throughout the campaign, such as Hikari the warrior, Agnea the dancer, and Ochette the hunter. The travelers can use their unique “path actions” to accomplish their goals, such as stealing needed items with the thief. Path actions also change depending on the new day/night cycle.

The sequel promises more interactivity between the travelers as their stories progress. In battle, characters can unleash powerful new abilities by building up an ability gauge during combat.

A Prologue Demo is available on Steam, PlayStation, and Switch digital stores. The demo allows playing any of the eight protagonists, for up to three hours. Save data will carry over to the full game.

Octopath Traveler is available now. It’s rated T for Teen.
