During this week’s Nintendo Direct, Square Enix announced Octopath Traveler 2 for Nintendo Switch (as well as PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5). The 2D-HD RPG sequel will release February 24, 2023.

Octopath Traveler 2 is set in the war-torn world of Solistia, and features a new cast of eight travelers.

The trailer reveals Hikari the warrior, Agnea the dancer, Partitio the merchant, Osvald the scholar, Throné the thief, Temenos the cleric, Ochette the hunter, and Castti the apothecary. The bulk of the trailer focuses on Hikari and Agnea’s story and abilities.

As in the original game, each of the travelers has a unique skill, called a Path Action, they can use on their journey.

The original Octopath Traveler released in 2018 as a Switch exclusive. It’s a throwback RPG with an eye-catching art style that combines pixel characters with 3D backgrounds, called 2D-HD. The plot is divded into eight main characters, each with multiple chapters. Players can choose which characters to tackle, but once a character is chosen, their story must be completed before moving on.

Digital pre-orders will receive the Travel Provisions pack, which includes 5 healing grapes, 5 inspiriting plums, 2 revitalizing jams, and Gold Dust worth 5,000 leaves.

Octopath Traveler 2 has not yet been rated. The first game had a strong Teen rating with Blood, Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, Suggestive Themes, and Alcohol Use.
