Two of the biggest entertainment media forces collide in the Fortnite X Star Wars event, running now in Fortnite Battle Royale.

The event kicked off last Saturday, when Fortnite players could head over to Risky Reels to witness the debut of never-before-seen footage of upcoming film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and a special virtual avatar appearance by director J. J. Abrams. Everyone who attended the event earned a free TIE Whisper Glider.

Naturally the event broke Epic Games’ servers at one point. As a show of goodwill, Epic is giving out the TIE Whisper Glider to all current players.

If you missed the Saturday night event, fear not. TIE Fighters have since crashed all over the island, leaving behind special Star Wars items like lightsabers and blasters to pick up and use. The lightsabers add all new melee combat to Fortnite, and yes, they’re hilariously powerful.

Star Wars character skins are available for purchase in the shop, including Rey, Finn, and a stormtrooper skin.

The Star Wars event is Fortnite’s first major new event since the big Chapter 2 update, which reset much of the world. It’s not clear when the Star Wars event will end but given its popularity (and the film’s release this Friday, December 20), expect it to stick around for a while.
