The digital adaptation of The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is now available on PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One, for $24.99. The increased price compared to the PC version is because the console version includes the first expansion, The Shadow’s Fall, which is available as a separate purchase on PC.
The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is based on the 2-player cooperative (or solo) Living Card Game by Fantasy Flight Games. Players build custom decks of three heroes from the extensive Lord of the Rings universe. Each hero has unique abilities and cards. Players team up and complete quests and objectives as they battle the forces of Sauron.
The digital version supports online multiplayer for up to two players.
The Shadow’s Fall expansion adds four new heroes with eight new cards each: Dain Il Ironfist, Fredegar Bolger, Glorfindel and Idraen. The story quests has you journeying into the Mirkwood to repel the Orcish incursion, and acts as a follow-up to the events in the base game, The Shadow’s Reach.
Living Card Game is a term coined by Fantasy Flight for many of their card games, which are supported by a parade of expansion packs. The difference between an LCG and a Collectible Card Game (like Magic: The Gathering) is the expansion packs in an LCG are not randomized boosters. With each expansion you know exactly what cards you’re going to get.
The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is developed in-house by parent company Asmodee Digital. It released on PC (Steam) earlier this year, and out now on consoles. It’s rated E10+ for Violent References and Mild Language.
