The days are shorter, the weather is cooler, and we’re heading into the holiday season, but next year’s Summer Olympics will be here before you know it. For Mario and Sonic and friends, the Olympics are already here. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is available today exclusively on Nintendo Switch in physical retail and digitally via the Nintendo eShop.

Mario & Sonic Olympic Games 2020 features over 30 2D and 3D mini-games and events, with Bowser and Dr. Eggman teaming up to trap our heroes in a 2D-themed console, called the Tokyo ’64. The 2D events include racing, hurdles, volleyball, and kayaking, while 3D events include sporting matches like soccer, boxing, and rugby, as well as gymnastics, fencing, horse jumping, archery, skateboarding, and table tennis.

New Dream Events add a more fantastical element to the mini-games, including Dream Karate, Dream Racing, and Dream Shooting.

The cast of characters features 20 of Mario and Sonic’s friends and frenemies, including Tails, Wario, Donkey Kong, Bowser Jr., Daisy, Shadow, Blaze, and Knuckles.

The gameplay is built for local multiplayer with up to four players, and online multiplayer for up to eight. The mini-games take advantage of the Switch Joy-Con motion controllers to run, kick, swim, shoot, and more. Note that online multiplayer requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020 is rated E10+.
