Over three years after its initial launch, Pokémon GO has added the fifth generation of Pokémon to Pokémon GO.

Gen 5 was the era of Pokémon Black and White, which launched on the Nintendo DS in 2011. It added the most new Pokémon of any other generation, with 156, and uniquely spawned a direct main game sequel with Black 2 and White 2 a year later.

As when previous Pokémon generations have been added to Pokémon GO, new Pokémon will be gradually added to eggs, raids, and found in the wild. New wild Gen 5 Pokémon include the starters Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott, as well as Lillipup, Purrloin, and Blitzle.

Gen 5 Pokémon can also be hatched from the following eggs:

  • 2 km Eggs: Patrat, Lillipup, Purrloin, Pidove
  • 5 km Eggs: Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Blitzle, Drilbur, Foongus
  • 10 km Eggs: Ferroseed, Klink, Litwick, Golett, Deino

Lillipup, Patrat, and Klink can be challenged in raids, with Klink being a raid-exclusive Pokémon that’s not normally found in the wild.

Gen 5 also has its share of regional-specific Pokémon, requiring you to do quite a bit of international travel if you truly want to catch ’em all.

  • Asia-Pacific: Pansage
  • Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: Pansear
  • The Americas and Greenland: Panpour
  • Western hemisphere: Heatmor
  • Eastern hemisphere: Durant

A new evolutionary item can be earned from Research Breakthroughs, the Unova Stone. This item is needed to evolve certain Gen 5 Pokémon, such as Lampent.

Gen 4 was added last fall, and Gen 3 in Fall 2017. Given that release schedule, it will be many years before Pokémon GO fully catches up. Pokémon Sword and Shield are the eighth generation of Pokémon games, and they’re coming November 15 on Switch.

Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android mobile devices.
