Indie studio Lost Token and publisher Dionous Games announced that retro-inspired adventure game Theropods will release on August 20 on PC (Epic, GOG, Steam).
Theropods is an old-school 2D adventure game featuring hand-drawn pixel art. However, while most adventure games are heavy on dialogue and story, Theropods has no dialogue, text, or even subtitles.
Playing as a young hunter whose tribe is conquered by barbarians, players meet a crash-landed traveler from outer space. Together, they must journey across their prehistoric world of dinosaurs and man to free her people, and send the traveler home.
As an adventure game, players must rely on their wits and items to overcome challenging and dangerous situations. The entire world is a visual puzzle that can be solved by distraction, avoidance, or clever use of items. And, probably, the power of unlikely friendship!
Theropods originally sprung from a game jam back in 2015. It grew into a full-length video game from a successful Kickstarter campaign, which includes hand-drawn artwork converted to pixel art.
“Theropods took ten years to make, and honestly, the game it became is exactly why it took that long,” said Kostas Skiftas and Sarah Duffield-Harding, co-founders of Lost Token. “We could have shipped the little 2015 jam version and moved on. Instead we kept rebuilding it until it was the wordless adventure we always wanted it to be. That conviction was the whole point.”
Theropods will release on August 20 on PC. A free demo is also available.
