Indie developer Cygnus Cross has revealed its debut game, Emberville, and announced that it will release via Steam Early Access this Summer.
Emberville is a subgenre of the farm sim called “farm & fight,” which puts as much emphasis on combat and dungeon crawling as growing crops. The press release mentions “Diablo-lite meets Stardew Valley.” As one of those weirdos who loves both game genres, I admittedly find that intriguing.
The town of Emberville is home to helpful NPCs with various quests, which unlock new classes and professions with their own gameplay and abilities. The world is procedurally generated and full of enemies, treasures, and resources. Players can mix and match abilities and skills from different classes to fit their playstyle.
Level up weapons and armor, advance crafting skills, rescue and recruit NPCs to expand the town, and build up your own personal homestead. And, you know, grow crops and chop trees and stuff.
The trailer also features some rather impressive voice acting, with the developers confirming Alex Jordan (The Alters) and Doug Cockle (The Witcher 3) joining the roster.
Though it shares the pixel art of something like Stardew Valley, the themes and world design leans more toward Diablo’s bloody and frightening atmosphere. The Steam store page includes a Mature Content warning, including frequent violence or gore.
Look for Emberville releasing via Early Access on Steam later this Summer.
