During the PlayStation January 2024 State of Play, HoYoverse (Genshin Impact) announced that their next freemium gacha game, Zenless Zone Zero, will be arriving on PlayStation 5 later this year.

Unfortunately we still don’t have a more definitive release date.

Zenless Zone Zero is set in an apocalyptic future, where only the modern-ish city of New Eridu remains. New Eridu mines special technology from the apocalyptic Hollows that destroyed the world. Only special agents can journey within to explore the dangerous world outside the city.

The game balances between the safety of the urban city, and the dangers of the Hollows, not unlike a Persona game. Players can wander the city, visiting shops, and talking with citizens.

In the Hollows, they’ll take on monstrous threats, using an action battle system of dodges, skill timing, and synergy between party members.

HoYoverse is the developer behind popular gacha games Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. Gacha games focus on collecting characters and powering them up over time, and are well-suited for mobile and console gaming. HoYoverse’s games feature big production values, with professional voice acting, large worlds, tons of dialogue, and beautiful art and animation.

Both games are rated T for Teen. Zenless Zone Zero has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Zenless Zone Zero is also coming to PC and mobile devices.
