Square Enix announced a new mobile game based on the Dragon Quest manga and anime, The Adventures of Dai. It’s called The Adventures of Dai: A Hero’s Bonds, and it’s coming to Android and iOS platforms on September 28.

A Hero’s Bonds is described as a team action RPG. Judging from the trailer, it looks like the RPG equivalent of an endless runner, as characters charge forward and deal with obstacles, including colorful Dragon Quest monsters.

Players can forge their own hero, then collect soul crystals to customize and upgrade their hero. Each character can equip up to three soul crystals, each of which is based on a different character from the anime series. As friendship is a major theme of the anime, each character has a friendship level that progresses by adventuring together, unlocking special scenes between characters.

Two different stories are included, one based on the original Adventure of Dai series, and another all-new adventure set in the world of Milladosia. Players will travel between both worlds throughout their adventures.

Pre-registration is available now. If the game reaches 1.5 million (yes, million) pre-registrations, everyone will be rewarded with an in-game bonus of 3,000 gems when the game launches. Gems can be used for treasure hunts and to refill stamina.

Dragon Quest Dai: A Hero’s Bonds will release on September 28. It’s rated E10+.
