Square Enix has released War for Wakanda for Marvel’s Avengers, a free update that adds Black Panther as a playable hero, as well as new enemies, environments, and villains. For an in-depth look, check out the 16-minute War Table video above.

War for Wakanda stars King T’Challa, also known as the superhero Black Panther, and the ninth playable hero in Marvel’s Avengers. The story takes place around the fictionalized, technologically advanced African country of Wakanda, as Black Panther must defend his people, and protect the world’s only source of vibranium, from the villainous Klaw. Players can also explore a new Outpost in The Golden City of Birnin Zana, which includes the Wakandan War Room and Shuri’s laboratory.

Black Panther is a fierce melee combatant. Blocking and parrying attacks builds an Intrinsic Meter, which fuels explosive bursts of kinetic energy. He can also pounce on enemies and take them to the ground, slashing with his powerful vibranium claws.

“The War for Wakanda Expansion is the biggest and best update we’ve ever made to Marvel’s Avengers,” said Scot Amos, Co-Head of Studio at Crystal Dynamics. “We’re proud to be able to deliver all this new content for free for everyone who owns the game. Combined with the new features we’ve added and improvements we’ve made since launch, there’s never been a better time to be a Marvel’s Avengers player.”

The War for Wakanda update adds a host of features and updates as Marvel’s Avengers reaches 2.0, including UI improvements, balance changes, and a new Corrupted Vibranium Event that lasts through September 2nd. A new digital-only version of the game, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, has also been released, which features all previously released content as well as eight bonus outfits based on the comics and MCU, for $59.99.

Marvel’s Avengers is rated T for Teen.
