After being heavily teased in the last update, miHoYo has finally confirmed the release date for the first big expansion to Genshin Impact via the 2.0 update. Version 2.0 adds the long-awaited third (of seven) major city and region, Inazuma, to the free-to-play action-RPG.

Inazuma is located across the sea, ruled by the Electro Archon. The land is divided up into six islands surrounded by the sea. Inazuma features its own culture, characters, and storylines, including new boss monsters, loot, and more importantly, new playable characters.

Three new characters are being added in version 2.0:

  • Kamisato Ayaka is a 5-star Cryo sword user, and has been available before via closed beta testing.
  • Yoimiya is a 5-star Pyro archer who specializes in fireworks.
  • Sayu is a 4-star Anemo claymore wielder and a pint-size ninja.

Version 2.0 also adds cross-save functionality between the PC, mobile, and PlayStation platforms, as well as upgrades for PlayStation 5 users, including improved character shading and haptic feedback support for the PS5 controller.

Genshin Impact launched last fall with two of its seven planned regions. Inazuma is the first of the major post-launch expansions. Genshin Impact is free-to-play gacha game, supported by microtransactions of buying random packs to get rare characters and items.

Genshin Impact is available on PC (official website, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and iOS and Android mobile devices. It’s coming to Switch, though a release date has not yet been announced. It’s rated T for Teen.
