Today Crystal Dynamics streamed their first of several planned monthly War Table videos for Marvel’s Avengers. The War Table videos provide a deeper dive into gameplay mechanics and story, including revealing Marvel’s Avengers’ head supervillain, MODOK.

Hero Missions are single player missions where you play as an Avenger in a story-based mission. The example used in the War Table video is with Thor in “Once an Avenger.” Thor wields his hammer, flies, and fire lighting bolts.

Every hero has three different heroic abilities: assault, support, and ultimate. Heroes also have skill trees full of abilities, and can equip a variety of equipment. Heroes can also earn different costumes and emotes that reflect their history in the comics and movies, though some outfits will only be purchasable via the paid marketplace.

War Zones are co-op missions that can be played with up to four players (or AI-controlled bots). Each player can choose their hero and their loadout as they deploy around the world to fight the sinister AIM organization.

Marvel’s Avengers will release September 4 on PlayStation 4, PC, Stadia, and Xbox One. It’s rated T for Teen.

Square Enix recently confirmed that the game is also releasing for PlayStation 5 and Xbox One X later this Holiday. Players of the current-gen game can upgrade for free and transfer their saves and profiles.
