If you had told me that 2020 would see the release of a tactical strategy game based on Jim Henson’s 1982 muppet-based fantasy film The Dark Crystal, I’d respond with a half-enthused “huh.”

To be fair, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is based on the much more recent 2019 Netflix series, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which serves as a prequel to the film. The tactical strategy game was developed by BonusXP and published by En Mass Entertainment in collaboration with Netflix.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics launched this week on PC and Mac (Steam, GoG, En Masse Launcher), PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One, for $19.99. Watch the new launch trailer above.

In the game you control a Gelfling resistance battling against the evil Skeksis overlords on the fantasy world of Thra. Throughout the campaign you’ll recruit 14 playable characters, including characters from the Netflix series, and assign them jobs, abilities, and equipment.

The campaign features over 50 levels throughout Thra, including Gelfling homesteads, deserts, and forests.

BonusXP has previously collaborated with Netflix with Stranger Things 3: The Game. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is available now for PC and consoles. It’s rated E for Everyone.
