Blizzard Entertainment revealed the latest hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster in the Season One trailer (above). Overwatch 2 is out October 4, with the beginning of Season One.

Kirkio is a support class hero with a foxy ninja theme, who’s capable of dishing a solid amount of damage. The highly mobile support can heal and buff her allies by tossing cards, or throw kunai at enemies. Her ultimate involves summoning her kitsune, a fox spirit to bolster her forces.

Kiriko is the third new hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster after Sojourn and Junker Queen, for a total of 35 heroes at launch. Kiriko and the others will be instantly unlocked for Overwatch 1 players upon logging in during Season One or Season Two. Others will have to unlock her via the Season 1 battle pass.

Taking a page from Fortnite and countless other free-to-play games, Overwatch 2 will utilize a seasonal battle pass, which replaces loot boxes. Players unlock goodies as they progress through a season on the free track. They can optionally purchase the battle pass to also receive the premium track of unlockables (1000 Overwatch coins, or about $10 USD).

Seasons will last about nine weeks and bring a new hero or map, alternating each season. Blizzard confirms that new heroes will be unlockable via the free track.

Each battle pass will include over 80 unlockable cosmetics under a certain theme. Season One’s theme is cyberpunk. Twenty unlockables will be free, with the rest being premium-only. The free unlocks will be spread throughout the pass, not all at the front.

Overwatch 2 will also add mythic skins that features layered patterns and colors, exclusive to the premium tracks. One mythic skin will be added each season.

Overwatch 2 will launch October 4 on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox. The original game will shut down October 2 as the developer switches all support to the sequel, though all content from OW1 will be accessible in Overwatch 2.
