It’s the moment millions of fans have been waiting for since Sunday. The black hole that literally destroyed the world of Fornite has birthed an all new map and a seasonal reboot. Welcome to Fortnite Chapter 2, available now as a free download on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
Fortnite Chapter 2 adds the first entirely new island since the Battle Royale mode initially launched in 2017. The new map emphasizes lakes and rivers that take advantage of the new boat vehicles, as well as swimming and fishing. The island features a total of 13 all-new locations to explore.
Alongside the new map comes a new battle pass for Chapter 2 – Season 1. The 100-item battle pass features the usual cosmetic rewards of skins, emotes, gliders, axes, and backpacks. Progression has been improved to include additional ways to level up by earning medals and XP through challenges and other activities.
The Chapter 2 – Season 1 battle pass costs the usual 950 V-Bucks (about $10). Players can actually earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks through battle pass rewards, paying for the next battle pass and then some.
Season 2 also adds new supportive weapons and systems, such as the healing Bandage Bazooka, and the ability to carry fallen teammates. The new map also features several video game-y elements, such as haystacks to hide in and ambush nearby foes, and a number of explosive barrels and gas tanks awaiting mayhem.
Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 1 runs through December 12. Fortnite is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, Xbox One, iOS and Android. It’s rated T for Teen.
