Indie developer Humble Reeds (Kamaeru A Frog Refuge) announced life sim, Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling, will release on PC this December, followed by PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in January 2027.

Heidi’s Legacy is a story-rich, cozy life sim inspired by the classic Heidi novel, which was published in the late 19th century by Swiss author Johanna Spyri. The influential story stars the titular young girl as she lives with her grandfather in the Swiss alps. The beloved story has been adapted dozens of times, including a popular anime in the 1970s.

And now, it’s a video game!

In Heidi’s Legacy, players play as the now grown-up young woman Heidi as she returns to her pastoral life from the busy city.

As a cozy life sim, players will explore the scenic Alpine surroundings, shepherd their goats, trade for resources, and form bonds with the local villagers, including Heidi’s infamously grumpy grandfather, and her childhood friends.

And yes, romance is an option!

The game world features a lovely watercolor art style that resembles a classic children’s story.

“The Heidi novels left a profound impact on us growing up,” said Mélanie Christin and Aurélien Condomines, Co-Founders of Humble Reeds. “Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling” takes our passion for the novels and provides a wonderful backdrop for us to create titles with heartfelt stories that resonate with audiences of all ages.”

Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling will first launch on Steam PC this December. A free demo will launch during Steam Next Fest later this month.
