Devolver Digital and developer Terrible Toybox in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games has released Return to Monkey Island on PC (Steam) and Switch ($24.99).

Goofy pirate Guybrush Threepwood returns as the star, along with love interest Elaine and businessman Stan, and newcomers such as young Captain Madison. Guybrush will navigate dangerous islands by pointing and clicking his way through puzzles, dialogue trees, and humorous pirate banter.

Return to Monkey Island is the sixth game in the classic pirate-themed adventure games series by Lucasarts. Series creators Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman returned to work on the series for the first time in 31 years, since Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.

The Monkey Island series is one of the most well-known adventure series in gaming, though the last game in the series was released over a decade ago. The games represent an interesting evolution of gaming over the 1990s, from early pixelated art into hand-drawn animations, followed by 3D graphics.

The first two games are available as remastered Special Editions on PC and consoles. All five games can be found on Steam and GOG on PC.

The first three games in particular are well-worth playing as hallmarks of classic point and click adventure games during the genre’s golden age.

Return to Monkey Island is rated E10+.
