Marvel Games and NetEase Games have revealed the details for Season 9 of popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals, which launches July 10.
Season 9: Mystery of Thebes introduces the Collapsed Timeline, which puts OG mutant and frequent X-Men villain, Apocalypse, front and center. Apocalypse is taking advantage of the end of the world to ascend to godhood, but he’s shockingly assassinated.
Hmm, who do we know in the Marvelverse that kills gods and wields a big sword?
Inspired by Apocalypse’s Egyptian roots, Season 9 has a strong Egyptian theme, with new outfits for Rocket, Deadpool, Mantis, and more. The new Convoy map, Thebes, arrives July 23.
Season 9 will add young X-Men hero Jubilee as a Strategist. Jubilee uses her firework plasmoids to heal teammates while also damaging and blinding enemies.
Dang, we just missed the 4th of July tie-in by that much!
B-list villainous gangster The Hood will join the roster in the second half of the season. He’s a bit more well-known thanks to appearing in the Ironheart TV series. The Hood wields magic powers stemming from his signature cloak. Not to be confused with Cloak from Cloak and Dagger, who are mutants!
On July 30, Rivals will kick off a new game mode called Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Age of Ultron. It sounds like a new co-op PvE mode, with players battling through Avengers Tower to face off against Ultron and his army of drones.
We’re also getting a full rework to Black Widow, the notoriously challenging sniper. Plus, tons of new Team-Up in a big rework of the system. Starting in Season 9, every single hero will feature two Team-Up Ability loadouts, and each loadout will include a Base Effect and Enhanced Effect. The Base Effect is always active, while the Enhanced Effect unlocks if the hero’s appropriate teammate is present on the team.
Marvel Rivals is free to play on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and rated T for Teen.
