Former Humble Games leadership Balor Games, along with developer Goose Byte Games, announced Sponge Break, a funny co-op adventure for 1-4 players coming to Steam. A closed beta test will launch later this month.

Sponge Break stars up to four anthropomorphic kitchen sponges on a quest to escape the sink on a wooden raft. The journey on the water is perilous and filled with poisonous water, spinning blades, iron grates, and wood-eating beavers.

The sponges aren’t completely helpless. They can punch beavers (and each other), use tools to repair the raft, help navigate the river, and grapple each other with plungers. Surely with careful efficiency and easy results!

Like many cheeky co-op adventures, Sponge Break uses real 3D physics. Players must maintain the health of their raft while avoiding obstacles (and trying to work together) on their lengthy journey. Players must pass through multiple biomes of sewers, rivers, and more, while safehouses give a chance to stock up between runs.

Drop in/out co-op makes multiplayer easy — though it’s also playable solo. The game also features built-in proximity voice chat, and over 100 unlockable cosmetic options to change your sponge’s looks, accessories, and emotes.

No release date has been announced, but interested players can sign up for the closed beta test right now. Invites will begin on July 28.
