IO Interactive announced that 007 First Light has sold 1.5 million copies within the first 24 hours of launch. Pretty darn impressive for a new game (and definitely IO Interactive’s fastest-selling game), albeit one based on a world-famous IP.
First Light, like the Casino Royale film two decades ago, tells the story of a young and more reckless James Bond (Patrick Gibson). Bond is in his mid-20s when he’s recruited into the world of international spycraft. Beginning as a recruit in MI6, Bond grows into a full-fledged spy, using his wits, strength, and gadgets to complete each mission. And of course, that sweet Ashton Martin.
IO Interactive is best known for the beloved Hitman franchise of stealth-action games. First Light uses an upgraded version of the studio’s Glacier engine, with DLSS Multi Frame Generation. Path Tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction are coming later this summer.
No, I don’t know what any of that means, but it sure sounds fancy.
“With 007 First Light, we set out to honor the incredible legacy of 007 while creating a Bond gaming experience like no other,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive. “This is a Bond still finding his footing, one players can grow with on his journey shaped by instincts, intelligence, and the resolve that ultimately build the character’s lasting impact.”
007 First Light is available on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, and rated T for Teen. A Switch 2 version is coming later this Summer.
