Frontier Developments has announced Planet Zoo 2, the sequel to 2019’s detailed zoo management sim. Planet Zoo 2 will release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 13 ($49.99).
Planet Zoo 2’s big new feature are aquariums and aviaries. For the first time, Zookeepers can house fully aquatic and flying species in natural habitats.
More than placeable exhibits, aquariums and aviaries are fully customizable habitats, giving players control over their location and scenery. Aquarium filtration must be maintained, while aviaries can feature walk-through areas for guests.
The sequel also creates an even greater focus on animal conservation — a critical role in modern zoos. Players will engage in conservation projects outside of their zoos, restoring natural habitats when releasing animals into Wildlife Reserves.
Oh, and the graphics look absolutely stunning!
Aside from recreating authentic habitats and environments for their animals, Zookeepers must also manage their staff, and constantly perfect the guest experience to turn a profit.
All the game modes from Planet Zoo return. Career mode takes players on a journey across the planet, helping zoos and Wildlife Reserves. Franchise mode connects players with each other, allowing them to trade animals and contribute to conservation efforts. And Sandbox mode provides free building with different limits and challenges.
Each mode is further enhanced by the new Planet Hub, which tracks progress and conservation projects from a single menu.
In addition to the Standard Edition, a Deluxe Edition will include the Deluxe Upgrade Pack, which features an additional six animal species ($64.99):
- Axolotl
- Blue & Gold Fusilier
- Golden Eagle
- Golden Lion Tamarin
- Hammerhead Shark
- Longfin Batfish
All pre-orders will also receive the Bonus Content Pack, which includes the Toucan Eat Shop and Signage, three Unique Animal Donation bins, and the Tiger Photo Stand-in Wall.
More on Planet Zoo 2 will be revealed during the Wholesome Direct showcase on June 6, and the PC Gaming Show on June 7, as part of Summer Game Fest 2026.
Planet Zoo 2 will release on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 13. It has not yet been rated by the ESRB.
