Ravensburger announced Disney Villainous: Darkness Brewing, a new Disney Villainous box set featuring four villains, including the new Sanderson Sisters. Darkness Brewing will arrive on July 5, with pre-orders currently available at Target.
Darkness Brewing is the series first 4-villain box set since the Introduction to Evil, and features Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula, and the Sanderson Sisters (working as a single playable villain). It’s the third time we’ve seen Maleficent and Ursula in a Villainous set (if we don’t count the Villainous spinoff, Unstoppable). While Evil Queen previously appeared in the first Disney Villainous expansion, Wicked to the Core.
From beloved cult classic movie Hocus Pocus (and less beloved but still alright sequel), the Sanderson Sisters are powerful if ditzy witches with the goal of achieving immortality. To win in Villainous, they must brew the Life Potion, and force one of their pesky rival heroes, Max, Danni, or Allison, to drink it.
For new players, Darkness Brewing looks like a solid entry into the classic asymmetrical game, and celebrates villainous Disney women.
Veterans who already own the other villains won’t have to double dip to complete their collection, however. The Sanderson Sisters will also be released as a single villain standalone expansion in Disney Villainous: Come, We Fly, launching later this year.
“For our established players and fans of Disney Villainous, our standard, two-Villain, and occasional single-villain offerings are the perfect way to grow their collections,” said Brenna Noonan, Games Product Manager, Ravensburger. “New players though, they want to have a few more options to choose from when they first dive into the game. The introduction of a popular character like The Sanderson Sisters ahead of the game’s tenth anniversary is the perfect time for us to launch a bigger box of Villains so new fans of Disney’s Hocus Pocus can buy one product and start playing immediately.”
Originally released in 2018, Disney Villainous is a card game where players take on the role of infamous villains from animated films, trying to achieve their personal goals by playing cards and moving around their personal board, while thwarting their fellow villains.
The game has proven extremely expandable, with over half a dozen expansions featuring more villains from Disney and Pixar films. The gameplay has also spun off to include Marvel and Star Wars villains.
Disney Villainous has a recommended age rating of 10+.
