Epic Games has changed the value of purchasing V-Bucks in Fortnite. Though, it’s less of a price increase, and more of a goods decrease. Previously, an $8.99 pack gave 1,000 V-Bucks. Now, that same pack includes only 800 V-Bucks. That’s a 20% decrease in V-Bucks for the same cost.

The same is true of the other V-Bucks packs, resulting in 10-15% fewer V-Bucks for the same amount.

To coincide with these changes, and perhaps prevent an all-out mutiny, the Fortnite Battle Pass premium cost has been reduced from 1,000 V-Bucks, to 800.

However, V-Bucks rewards in the Battle Pass have also been decreased.

Previously, players could earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks by completing the Battle Pass through the Bonus Rewards. That was enough to pay for the next Battle Pass, plus spend on extra cosmetics for die hard players. Now, the maximum amount of V-Bucks players can earn from the Battle Pass is 800, with no V-Bucks awards in the Bonus Rwards. That’s only just enough for the next Battle Pass.

Fornite Crew subscribers are also feeling the sting. Crew subscribers will receive reduced V-Bucks each month, from 1,000 to 800. Fortnite Crew is the monthly subscription that unlocks the Battle Pass for Fornite, as well as OG, LEGO, and Music games within the Epic Games ecosystem.

The reason for the price change? According to the blog post, “The cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot and we’re raising prices to help pay the bills.”

Needless to say, Fornite fans are upset with the increase, with many choosing to cancel their Fortnite Crew subscriptions.

In related news, Epic Games recently laid off over 1,000 employees: “The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we’re spending significantly more than we’re making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded,” said Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic, in a publicly posted note to employees. “What we now need to do is clear: build awesome Fortnite experiences with fresh seasonal content, gameplay, story, and live events; accelerate developer tools with greater stability and capability as we evolve from Unreal Engine 5 and UEFN to Unreal Engine 6. And we’ll be kicking off the next generation of Epic with huge launch plans towards the end of the year.”

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC and Mac, PlayStation, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, and mobile devices. It’s rated T for Teen.
